This divot tool is made from Bois de Rose (Dalbergia maritima) a very dense, heavy wood in the Rosewood family with a specific gravity of .96. This wood is noted for having a rich, deep burgundy color mixed with streaks of black. It's a very oily wood which combines with its exceptional hardness to produce a highly polished surface. Almost all of the Rosewoods produce a very sweet aroma when worked (which is where the name comes from) but the higher than average oil content gives this wood an unusually strong scent. The intensity and depth of the color almost makes the wood look as if it has been dyed, but this is the true color of the wood, brought out only with clear Watco Oil followed with a paste wax buff. In my opinion it's one of the richest looking of the divot tools.
