This cigar holder/divot tool is made from Black & White Ebony (Diospyros embryopteris) a rare member of the Ebony family, native to Southeast Asia and India. The wood is known for its contrast of light and dark colored grain. While most Ebonies are in the ironwood class this member is slightly lighter. I can't find information on the specific gravity but it does float in water and going by feel I would guess it's around .85. The grain is very tight and takes a nice polish. Beautifully finished with Watco Oil and paste wax.

An interesting note for golfers is that a North American member of the Diospyros family is the American Persimmon (Diospyros virginiana), the traditional wood that "woods" were made of before the advent of metal and carbon fiber club heads. With a specific gravity of about .79 it's not in the ironwood class but its interlocking grain structure combined with its uncommon hardness made for a virtually indestructable club head with the unique ability to efficiently transfer potential energy to a golf ball.....that is, when properly swung.
